My Interests

Travel, photography, snorkeling, jazz. I used to be a mountain hiker but now enjoy more family oriented ways of traveling (well, my recent diving with the sharks and hiking the virgin jungles of Borneo were exceptions...) I am an amateur jazz piano player (stress on 'jazz' as an explanation for my inability to play the same melody twice in the same way) and occasional guitar player (not much lately).

I plan to put some of my pictures online (also one day...) Digital photography made it easy to shoot pictures en masse but it did not simplify the process of selection and putting them to use (at least, not for me). For now, the photos occupy (without much use I'd have to say) most of the 6 TB of combined space on my home network.

I love to travel. One day I want to join the Travelers' Century Club's. Below the line is the list of the countries and territories provided by the club with the places I have visited up to date highlighted (77).

Here is the Travelers' Century Club's official list of countries, a total of 319 as of January 2009. Although some are not actually countries in their own right, they have been included because they are removed from parent, either geographically, politically or ethnologically (see the Country Status page for detailed criteria). After consideration as to how long one must have stayed in a country or island group to qualify, it was decided that even the shortest visit would suffice — even if only a port-of-call, or a plane fuel stop*. This greatly widens the field and will give the traveler a better chance to qualify for one of the most unusual clubs in the world. Anyone who has visited 100 or more of the places listed below is eligible to join.

* AxG: I set my standards a bit higher and do not consider a simple port-of-call, or a plane fuel stop as a legitimate visit.
